The differences and choices between fluorescent brightener OB and OB-1:

  1. Molecular formula:

    • OB: The molecular formula is C₂₆H₂₆N₂O₂S.

    • OB1: The molecular formula is C₂₈H₁₈N₂O₂. They are      completely different chemical substances.

  2. Appearance:

    • OB: Appears as light yellow powder.

    • OB-1: There are two types. One is OB-1 yellow with      blue-violet light; the other is OB-1 green with blue light. In the      plastic industry, OB-1 green is more commonly used.

  3. Melting point:

    • OB: The melting point is between 196-203.

    • OB-1: The melting point is between 355-360. It is the most heat-resistant fluorescent      brightener among all. Therefore, for products that require      high-temperature processing, OB-1 is more suitable.

  4. Dispersibility and stability:

    • Dispersibility: OB has better dispersibility and is easier to      dissolve uniformly. For products such as paints and inks that have high      requirements for dispersibility, OB is more applicable.

    • Stability: OB has better stability and is less likely to   have migration and yellowing in the later stage. Relatively speaking,      OB1 has slightly worse stability and may have yellowing and migration,      but this is not absolute.

  5. Whiteness value: The whiteness value of OB is lower than that of    OB1. The whitening effect of OB-1 is more significant.

  6. Price: The price of OB is more expensive than that of     OB1. In the past, their prices were similar. However, later due to     environmental protection rectification and other reasons, the supply of     raw materials for OB had problems, and the price skyrocketed, more than     double that of OB-1.

  7. Scope of application:

    • OB: Can be widely used in thermoplastic plastics such      as PVC, PE, PP, ABS, as well as in the whitening of polyester fibers,      paints, inks, coatings, etc.

    • OB-1: Suitable for whitening and brightening of      plastics such as PE, PVC, ABS, and PC. It can also be made into a slurry      for whitening textiles. It has a low dosage, strong adaptability, and      good dispersibility. It can be added during post-processing or      polymerization.

When choosing, if there arehigher requirements for the dispersibility and weather resistance of theproduct, or if the product does not require high-temperature processing and ismore sensitive to cost, then fluorescent brightener OB can be selected. If theproduct requires high-temperature processing, has requirements forhigh-temperature resistance, or pursues a higher whiteness value, and therequirements for dispersibility and stability are not particularly strict, thenfluorescent brightener OB-1 may be more suitable. However, the specific choicestill needs to be determined after small sample testing according to factorssuch as the production process of the product.
